Updated Membership Fees and Auto Renewal
May 07, 2014, 01:18:24 pm
Greetings everyone. When an organization changes its membership signup fees, do members already signed up with the auto renewing option get updated to auto renew at the NEW price, or do they continue auto renewing at the ORIGINAL sign up price?  Thanks in advance for your feedback.

As far as I'm aware, as I recently got caught out with the same issue, if you change your fee, this makes no difference to any recurring payments that may have been set up. The recurring payment is set up with your payment processor, e.g. Paypal), and it will request the same amount as  logged when it was first created. Changing the price within CiviCRM does not affect this. This is my experience with Paypal. I can't speak for other payment processors, but i would guess that they would act in a similar fashion.

In my case, we had to go into the Paypal account and cancel all of the recurring payments that had been set up, refund any incorrect recurring payments had been made, write to everyone who had set up a recurring payment and let them know what was happening. It took a fair bit of work, even though we caught it fairly early on.
