Impossible to install Civicrm 4.4.5 on Joomla 3.3
May 08, 2014, 11:20:10 am
hello
When I try to install Civicrm4.4.5 on Joomla 3.3, from a folder where I unzipped the file civicrm-4.4.5-joomla.zip, I get this message :
"Error. Please enter a package directory"

I tried this path : /public_html/mysite/tmp/com_civicrm
and then : /tmp/com_civicrm

Any help ?

Hi,

You should try the complete path to server root. This vary a lot, but in shared servers usually includes your username, like:
/home/username/public_html/mysite/tmp/com_civicrm

Even in a private server, usually there's something before the "public_html" dir, like:
/var/www/public_html/mysite/tmp/com_civicrm

You can also try other install method, uploading the package itself to Joomla! admin interface.

Thanks Diegov

I forgot the / at the beginning of the path. Now the installation seems to work. No error message when it's finished.

But when I go to the menu Components/Civicrm, I have this on a white page :
"Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
DB Error: constraint violation.
Return to home page."

Can you enable debugging to get a better error message?

To see the debug, I first uninstalled Civicrm, deleted the hundreds of civicrm tables in PhpmyAdmin, then the folders, and re-installed it, with a new file re-downloaded.

..... but I forgot to put the debug on ....

Result : Blank screen + "Internal Server Error"

Very frustrating. I wanted to propose this solution to manage a non-profit association organizing a blues festival every year in France. I already did the website a few years ago (and about 40 other Joomla websites).

Can you check the server logs for an error?

There was nothing concerning Civicrm in the log files.

Now, after I put AddHandler application/x-httpd-php53 .php in a .htaccess file, the installation seems to work.
I had php 5.4 by default

But I have 2 other problems :
- When I click the database update asked just after the install :
An error has occurred.
Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
Version information missing in civicrm database.

- When I try to open Civicrm :
Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
DB Error: constraint violation

No idea of what I have to do ...

Can you enable debugging and try the upgrade again?

Just re-installed a new Joomla 3.3 on EasyPHP, and tried to install Civicrm from a folder.

It turns a few mn, and then blank screen.

I don't like to give up. But, maybe this time ...

Last minute : After adding / at the end of the path, it works.

Now, I'm just looking for the french language file.

Click on 4.4.5 and then the file is called civicrm-4.4.5-l10n.tar.gz

I found this file.
Unzipped /tar
Read the help https://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/CiviCRM+Localisation
(I don"t see neither how to put a link on a word in this forum)
And there is no path as indicated in the Civicrm Wiki.
at administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm there is no folder called  l10n
Quote
- For Joomla this would be site_root/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm.  So if you wanted the en_GB language it would look like this site_root/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/l10n/en_GB/

You should copy the entire l10n folder to:

administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm

so then after you do that, you will see:

administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/l10n/en_GB/

and all the other languages.
