CiviMail Bounce Fetch fails to open file
May 12, 2014, 05:08:34 am
I've got a problem I can't explain and I wonder if someone out there can.

Bounces (or test bounces to bounces+1234@[mydomain.com] are arriving in the right directory /var/spool/mail/bounces/new  I see they have permissions for user read and right 0600.

When I run the Fetch Bounces job either manually or allowing it to be scheduled, I see these error reports:

Warning: fopen(/var/spool/mail/bounces/new/[bounce file name]): failed to open stream: Permission denied in ezcMailFileSet->openFile() (line 176 of /var/www/london/drupal/sites/all/modules/civicrm/packages/ezc/Mail/src/transports/file/file_set.php).   The bounce is not processed, the user is not set "on hold". Oddly though the bounce email is deleted.

However if I manually alter the permissions of the bounce message to 0777 then run the Fetch Bounces process, it works fine with no error messages and the users account is set On Hold as it should be.

I just can't figure out how to get round that permissions issue!

This is CiviCRM 4.3.5 on Drupal 7.22 with Postfix 2.3.3

I do hope someone cleverer than me can point me to the right place!

Thank You

Pete

Hi, the permission is OK, but is the owner of the file OK too? The owner should be your MDA user, so your HTTP user would not be able to read it with 0600 permission. Maybe you should try 655 or 755.

Thank you for that good idea  - we're trying that now, the MDA user is "postfix".  Fingers crossed !
