Deleting Custom Fields really slow in 4.4.4

Does anyone know why it's so much slower to delete custom fields in 4.4.4 than 4.2.13?

Has anyone else encountered similar problems? Will the number (in our case very large) of custom fields affect the time to delete one of them?
