Odd behaviour - CiviMail seems to reset itself between New Mailing steps
May 12, 2014, 12:10:17 pm
Thought I'd check to see if anyone has seen this. I'm running CiviMail on 4.4.4, Drupal 7. Users are reporting that they get kicked back to the "Select Recipients" stage of creating a new mail after they have set up their content in step 3 and are trying to go through to step 4 to test. This is particularly annoying as they then lose everything they've written in step 3 and have to re-create their emails from scratch. My workaround is to suggest they type their content up first in a text editor so they don't lose it, but it's not inducing loads of confidence.

The emails are visible as drafts, with everything they've done in Steps 1 and 2 (Select Recipients and Track and Respond) preserved, just the content lost.

Has anyone run into something like this before?

I am having the same exact problem. It will load the template, then goes back to the first page. It does not happen with text that I type in, provided is less than four or five paragraphs long. Quite an erratic behaviour. Did you get any helpful answers?

Nothing yet. I'm going to update to 4.4.5 and hope that changes things.

I have this identical problem and I'm running 4.4.6.
There seems to be circumstantial evidence that this only happens with longer newsletters. i.e. my emails are usually shortish and more than 90% save fine but my colleague who writes longer newsletters has a high failure rate. As well as failing to go forward from step 3 (compose message)  to step 4 (Preview and test) it fails going from 3 back to step 2 and also when saved to continue later.
Any Ideas folks?

how big are the newsletters? There is a max POST size in php/apache which might be impacting this

Definitely less than my max POST size - if I'm reading that link correctly, that problem should kick in with 20M emails, right?

20M is just an example - it depends on your specific server set up - you should be able to look that up in your php.ini with the phpinfo(); function.

Mine's 30M, and I'm sure I've seen this behaviour with emails much smaller than that.
