Importing into CiviGrant? Your expereiences and ideas welcome

I'm hoping to import a large number (~3,000) of grants into CiviGrant.  Each Grant will have custom data associated with it, including (hopefully) a contact reference field.

There doesn't appear to be a Import Grants feature of Civi, so I'm wondering what techniques people have used to import before with success.

At this point I'm planning to either fuddle through the API and see if it works or simply structure a series of CSV files to import directly into MySQL via PHPMyAdmin after I'm confident in the schema structure.

Details and links of your experiences appreciated.

Somewhere between 'via the api' & via csv is the import wizard from when there isn't an import wizard (api csv importer - http://fuzion.co.nz/api-csv-import-gui )

I think grants have a pretty straight forward structure so I don't think you'll have too many probs

I did this once and I used PHP code to create the SQL to directly insert into the DB. But that may not be the best solution today. :)
