Groups - Can I edit "date added"?

I have set up a group group "Board of Directors". I would like to put the history of the Board into this group, ie members of the 2013, 2012, 2011 Board etc.

Is it possible to edit the Date Added and Date Removed fields in groups?

e.g. I would like to put this information in today but not have it say Added May 12, 2014

Max - Added April 2, 2011 Removed Dec 12, 2011
Jane - Added April 2, 2011 Removed May 31, 2013
Paul - Added June 1, 2013 (still current)

The only way I know of is to manually update the data in the table civicrm_subscription_history?

Ok, that's a step above my skill level at this point but it's good to know it's not possible through the user interface.

another approach you may have considered and discounted is using Relationships as the way of managing this - you can edit the start/end dates of Relationships (eg Directors of/Directors are)

and then build a Smart Group from that to have a list of your current ones

I'd second the relationship option. The custom relationship type can be edited from Administer->Customize Data and Screens->Relationship Types.
