Originally I was using SMTP with my gmail account to send outgoing emails. The problem is that it is ignoring the email it displays being sent from, and replies directly to the SMTP account it was sent from. That means that all replies come to me, and never go to the person that actually sent a notification.

I tried to switch to mail() for sending out notifications (such as event registrations). Now when I do a reply, it replies to my email address (that it was sent to). This is really frustrating and I'm not sure what to do.

Basically I need a way to have CiviCRM send emails from different users and then have the reply actually go back to the user. I would really appreciate any help in solving this problem!

in general if you dont get a fairly quick reply, it means that folks dont have a solution and/or the issue might need more investigation and spending some time on before proposing a solution. Mail servers in general are also trickier and varied which makes things more complicated

if you can afford it, you might want to hire someone from http://civicrm.org/providers to see if someone can spend time investigating and helping you out
