Managing volunteers not related to specific events
May 16, 2014, 06:54:12 am
Hello,

Our organization is looking to manage volunteers and their work hours for our food warehouse. Volunteers work on varying days Monday through Friday, and often change from day to day.

We've looked into CiviVolunteer, and while it will definitely fit our needs for managing volunteers for specific events, it seems to be limited at that (although I read that it may support volunteers not specific to any particular event in the future).

Is there any way to do this with CiviCRM at the moment?

Any insight would be appreciated - thanks!

I haven't executed this plan yet, but my strategy for doing exactly that is to try using CiviHR. In my client's case, almost all their workforce is volunteer, so they would need the same level of tracking despite not being compensated.

extending civivolunteer and making it more generic is on the roadmap. Would be great to get a few orgs to sponsor further such improvements to CiviVolunteer. This extension has a lot of traction and can and should be improved significantly. But, we do need either financial or code contributions from orgs that use it (in addition to feature requests)

If this wouldn't create too much overlap between CiviVolunteer and CiviHR, I'm all for it. I'd be glad to contribute to that effort.
