CiviCRM not sending email receipts for contributions

I’m trying to get CiviCRM to send an Email receipt when an individual makes a contribution. Currently, I’m getting no receipt and the confirmation page is blank.

My current setup is Drupal 7 and CiviCRM 4.4.3 on Amazon Web Services using Red Hat Linux. I installed wkhtmltopdf in /usr/local/bin and it’s executable by anyone. I have no customized email templates, they are all set to use the default. ‘Attach PDF copy to receipts’ is set to ‘No’ and the path to wkhtmltopdf is set to /usr/local/bin/wkhtmltopdf. Since I’m not attaching PDFs to receipts I would imagine that wkhtmltopdf is not needed but I have it anyway.

In the manage contribution pages section I have it set to send an email receipt. If I set it to NOT send a receipt then I do get the contribution page. Either way the contribution goes through, it’s just when the system is set to send an email the user gets no email and ends up on a blank ‘Thank you’ page.

Any thoughts on what I’m doing wrong?

Check your FROM email, is it valid?  Try on a new, simplified contribution page with a single word on the thank you page like "thanks".  Look for clues and check the most recently modified file at sites/default/files/civicrm/ConfigandLogs.
