I have CiviCRM 2.0.2 installed on a client's web server (and yes, I plan to update to 2.0.3 shortly), but whenever we run the duplicate checking rules for Individuals we get this error Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 27872 bytes). Our PHP config has set the max emory size to 32M. Does CiviCRM honestly need more than that for a Joomla + CiviCRM setup? Or is this something that's curable some other way?

We only have around 4000 contacts right now so it's odd that we're getting out of memory errors. Please advise.

Dupe Check is bit memory consuming process. You need to increase your memory limit.

Check http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,3102.0.html, for instruction to increase memory limit.

Unfortunately, shared servers don't generally look fondly on you increasing the memory limit beyond 32M. I know my account won't let me and I use one of the best hosts in the industry (at least performance-wise).

I saw that CiviCRM 2.1 is slated to include a number of de-dupe performance enhancements. Will that reduce the memory requirement to a more reasonable level?

That is one of the objectives - we'll know more in a bit (and it would be great if you can help test / verify this when 2.1 alpha is available :-) ).
