Using CRM_Core_BAO_CustomValue::deleteCustomValue()

Does anyone know if there's a reason why CRM_Core_BAO_CustomValue::deleteCustomValue() wasn't used as the basic for a customvalue.delete method? If not, is there any reason not to make that change now?
