Civimail Tracking Broken
May 20, 2014, 02:07:23 pm
Hello All.

We are having trouble with tracking after upgrading to 4.4.5.
We have not changed anything but our mails opened etc are not tracking.

We are using Joomla. Any advice on how to fix?

Warm Regards
Scott

and the civimails in question definitely have tracking turned on?
and when you look at the email received, what is the link that is provided on one of the links?

Hello and greetings from across the Tasman! :)

1. Bottom of email that had tracking and worked:

<br/><a href="http://XXXXX.org.au/three/index.php?option=com_civicrm&amp;task=civicrm/mailing/optout&amp;reset=1&amp;jid=37&amp;qid=638&amp;h=0793be7aafcddb47">Unsubscribe</a>
<img src="http://XXXXX.org.au/three/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/extern/open.php?q=638" width='1' height='1' alt='' border='0'>
--=_dc36750fcd724dcce439e6fbb55d9aae--

2. Bottom of email that had tracking issues:
<br/><a href="http://XXXXX.org.au/three/index.php?option=com_civicrm&amp;task=civicrm/mailing/optout&amp;reset=1&amp;jid=52&amp;qid=1299&amp;h=af7323b00fd66f8b">Unsubscribe</a>
<img src="http://XXXXX.org.au/three/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/extern/open.php?q=1299" width='1' height='1' alt='' border='0'>
--=_81ea0fcab2960fd5e3964e6fa5bb8728--

Since the first email where tracking worked, I’ve upgraded CiviCRM and Joomla.
I also had to change the timezone settings in php.ini. Civi was complaining as the php.ini file was set to a different timezone.
This put the server/PHP and MySQL Server out by half an hour. This has been fixed, but in retesting Civi the tracking is still broken.

Not sure what else we can do to fix the problem.

Warm Regards
Scott

hi scott and greetings to you too from a chill but sunny wellington morn.

those links are opt out ones

tracking applies to links in the body of the text

i don't think i can jump to a conclusion on the evidence you give

is it the Tracking of people clicking on links that is the issue - or people not being able to opt out

or am i wrong, and the Opt Out also 'gets tracked' if and only if tracking is on?

just trying to separate the two issues ;-)

No tracking is working like if someone opened an email forwarded, open the link in the emails etc. Optout works.

can you pls paste some of the links for a normal link, not an optout?

I've PM'd you the complete source of the emails. Just for privacy I've not put the whole emails in public.

Thanks so much
Scott

yep got those - okay so seeing no wrapper around the link at all

sorry i am not being much help here i think.

can you add me to the db  - set up a civimail to go to a test group you add me to - absolutely ensure that 'track clickthroughs' is ON at step two (yes perhaps add screenshot here as evidence ;-)

and then fire the civimail out?

you are welcome to ignore that suggestion - just trying to rule things out - and actually 'getting' an email that IS set to track clickthroughs - and me seeing that email as an original recipient might shed some light

Pete did help and I locked the cause of the problem. Thanks so much!
I reinstalled with the latest version and it fixed the issues. I'm glad :D Looks like we had a dodgy source file at one point.

Others has similar issues here:
