Offline version of civiCRM
May 21, 2014, 12:45:59 am
Hello,

I hope that you are all well.

I'm sorry to trouble you but I am not very technical and was looking for some advice if possible.

I downloaded civiCRM at Christmas. I was wondering if it is possible for me to download it onto my laptop-I realised that to use the database I would need to have internet connection all the time. This is not always going to likely as I will be moving to Africa in the next few months and I won't always have an internet connection. Is there a way that I can download the database so I can have an offline version too?

If it is possible could you please let me know what the steps are to download it onto my laptop are.My laptop uses window 7.

Don't worry if it's not possible I just thought that I would ask!

I will forward any replies to my IT volunteer who is really technically gifted so don't worry about complicated answers

Thanks in advance!

Have a lovely day!

 :)

CiviCRM does not require an internet connection in reality. It requires a computer with XAMP installed and normally that's best handled by using a webhost, in which case you do need internet.

However you can install XAMP on any PC and then run CiviCRM on that PC. Of course in that case, the system will be available only on that PC (or network).

For Windows, the XAMP version is called WAMP and you can Google for how to install that.

Note, however, that installing WAMP and then a CMS and then CiviCRM on Windows 7 is not at all a trivial matter--it can be quite complicated in fact.

I downloaded and installed XAMP for Windows 7 from http://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/files/XAMPP%20Windows/1.8.3/  It wasn't too bad to get running...
