What happened to the Drupal Calendar Block?

Under Drupal 6 / CiviCRM 3.4.8, I had a nifty calendar block that I put on the home page of my site. I also had a view, civicrm_events, that I could use as a baseline to get different pages or blocks based on CiviEvents.

Under Drupal 7 / CiviCRM 4.4.2, I have found the CiviCRM Event Calendar extension at https://civicrm.org/extensions/event-calendar-extension, but I simply cannot find any way to display CiviCRM events in a block. The civicdm_events view doesn't work anymore after the upgrade from CiviCRM 3 to 4

Has this capability disappeared from CiviCRM 4?

i think it is more that drupal and views changed how it deals with calendars and no-one has made/published the effort of reconstructing in d7 - and/or attempts have been made but some missing magic in the civicrm-views modules hasn't happened.

trawl the forum and i think you will find related threads which may contain solutions/workarounds
