UN country names / ISO 3166
May 27, 2014, 08:41:26 am
I had found this early post from 2009 http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,10032.msg43066.html#msg43066
There it says that civicrm relies on ISO 3166, ie it gets the country names from the United Nations eventually.
Though after installing, I've found a discrepancy and am wondering now, how often this list is getting updated in civicrm (if it gets updates at all?!?)
Since I rely on correct short country names, I would like to see an automated update being included in civicrm.

it is not automated but updated manually if and when folks from the relevant countries file an issue AND a PR

would be good to automate it. Can your org/client contribute code to do the needful

thanx

Got a hint from a colleague to use the information from opengeocode.org (which is built from UN information: http://opengeocode.org/download/countrynames.txt). Got in touch with them with the suggestion to add timestamps for easier update checking of the single items. When this is implemented, it should be easy to incorporate automation, either through extension, core or 3rd party script to update civicrm database.
