No Permission to View Frontend on CiviCRM 2.0.x Joomla
May 06, 2008, 11:54:05 am
On my site, the backend works just fine, but nothing works on the front end.  The error message the component returns is "You do not have permission to execute this url"

I googled the error message and found that the demo has the same problem

http://joomla.demo.civicrm.org/index.php?option=com_civicrm&Itemid=39

My guess which I'll investigate, is that since when I tried to add the ical calendar feed to my google calendar and it said the problem is in robots.txt, that the url being accessed is inappropriate somehow.  Now, when I installed the component, I went in and edited the jos_components file because it gave the link as ?option=com_civicrm&task=com_civicrm which I read somewhere is incorrect and corrected those.

Perhaps there are more bad data in the database?

Perhaps it's unrelated to the robot.txt issue since the dashboard works (thought I'm not sure what to do with it... Can't users add events from the frontend? Or is it all administered at the backend?)

The instructions seem to say when you put the component link the menu to only use the dashboard link.

In my experience, the other links give errors because they were expecting input ids.

Playing around on the demo I noticed that some pages are set up. Seems they are created on the backend after all.

So, I went to create a contribution page
http://foobar.com/administrator/index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/admin/contribute&action=add&reset=1
And it returned this after I entered my data (I tried both "is it active" options)

http://foobar.com/administrator/index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/admin/contribute&

Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.

Could not find valid Key

If you're using J1.0 make sure you edit index.php per the documentation, in order to allow session handling.

I'm on 1.5.4 with the modified install as I've noted earlier.  I got the ical working.  The link from the backend conflicts with robots.txt.

Listed as:
http://mysite.com/administrator/index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/event/ical&reset=1&page=1
Use in google calendar:
http://mysite.com/index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/event/ical&reset=1&page=1

tada

In sum:  The only component view you should put on the front end menu manually is the dashboard. The other ones, such as contribute and events, you create from the backend.  I'm going to figure this out for the mailing list and contact search.

I didn't realize the activities thing is a bit of a backend project management system as well...

Dear benjo4u,

I also have the "execute URL" problem with iCal and also with tell-a-friend.

The context for my failure is during online registration for an event, which works except for the iCal and tell-a-friend features.

In your description of your solution, I don't understand "manually" or "create from the backend". Could you elaborate?

Thanks,
Ken

Hi,

I just found http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-2774 which seems to be the fix for tell-a-friend. Ckecking the code in r2.0.3 reveals my iCal issue is fixed in a similar fashion.

Sorry about answering my own question, but maybe my post will help someone else,

Ken
