CiviEvent Registration and PayPal - No registration after payment

Hello!

We are using CiviEvent in CiviCrm 1.9 (upgrade to hopefully come soon), with PayPal (Drupal 5.7).

When an individual registers and pays they are added to a pre-defined group for CiviMail etc., however, the individual does not appear in CiviEvent as being registered for an event.

Everything works fine if the event is free.

Any ideas?

Is it necessary to have CiviContribute enabled to accept event payments?

Yes. Putting it in simple words, at current state of things CiviContribute provides all the online transaction functionality to other modules.
