"Recent Items" sidebar

During a recent CiviCRM training, the training versions of Civi we were using included a "Recent" (or "Recent Items") bar on the left of the screen, to allow you to quickly navigate back to one thing in particular.

That feature has been disabled on our Civi interface. Anybody know how to revive it? Thanks.

On Drupal, it's a block, so just go within the Drupal menu to Structure - Blocks and find it there.  You can drag it to whatever region you want, depending upon your theme.

(On Joomla, it's there whether you like it or not, and on WordPress, it's not available.)

That gets it to show up whenever I'm on working on the site through Drupal. But it doesn't show up anywhere on the Civi database - is there a way to make it stick there?

Do you have a separate theme for backend CiviCRM pages?  If so, the block placement there can be different because the regions can be different.  For example, some themes have no sidebars, so the block wouldn't appear in a sidebar in that case.  If this is the case, go to the block page for your CiviCRM theme (see in tabs at the top of the Blocks page), and manage the block there.  (It's possible to use a theme as the CiviCRM theme even when it's disabled, but in that case it won't show up on your blocks page, so you may need to enable the theme first.)
