Searching custom address field on non-primary address
June 09, 2014, 11:18:46 am
This issue shows up on the demo servers for both 4.4 and 4.5 - searching on a custom address field will not find non-primary address results.

To reproduce:
  • Create a custom field set  for addresses, with a custom field inside it (set searchable to Yes)
  • Edit a contact and add a primary address
  • Add a second (non-primary) address and insert a value in the custom field
  • Do an advanced search and insert the value added in previous step in the custom address field in the search form -- no results

I had no problems with searching in the custom address field on the 4.4 demo site.  Did you check the relevant Location Types at the top of the address search frame?

Quote
Location search uses the PRIMARY location for each contact by default.
To search by specific location types (e.g. Home, Work...), check one or more boxes above.

Wow, I had missed that completely. Actually this issue started out with me having trouble getting the info via the API and then I quickly tried an advanced search to see if it was more system wide than just the API -- but back to the API drawing board, I think.

Sorry about that.

Nothing to be sorry about, we all miss things sometimes.
