bulk add of registered volunteers

We have a large set of volunteers who have indicated their interest in volunteering.  I'd like to add them to the list of available volunteers.  Is there a way I can do this within civi?

hi, is the issue 'how to import contacts in to civi and find them afterwards' or the second step of 'having found them in the db how do i add them as a volunteer'?

i don't have the answer to the latter but can help with the former.

Thanks for your answer.  I have no problem importing the contacts but don't know how mark them as available in the civiVolunteer module.

Contacts show up as "Available" to volunteer for a project when they've filled out the form for that particular project or when you add them yourself. Do you really need to register a large number of contacts for the same project? If so, what immediately comes to mind is doing an API call to get all the relevant contacts (hopefully you tagged them or put them in a group) then using the VolunteerAssignment.create method. At present there is no UI for this.
