Search for organization primary contact

I would like to create a group (either static or dynamic) which consists of the Individual Contacts who are 'primary contact' for Organizations that have active memberships. By primary contact, I mean that person whose email address is the same as the Main Email for the Organization.

With some poking around at the database, I am certain that I could figure out the SQL query. However, is it possible to use one of the existing search tools to accomplish this? If so, how would I do this?

nope

we would normally use a Relationship to denote who is the Primary Contact for an org - then you can use that to make your group

Thank you. Could you please be a bit more explicit? I did some searching and did not find any useful references to 'Primary Contact'. This https://civicrm.org/blogs/nasact/use-cases-primarycontactid suggests that there is a field for the Primary ID, but I cannot find it in the Organization Contact record.

Your comment seems to suggest something in the relationship itself, but again, I could not find a box to indictae primary. Does 'primary' mean checking the box to allow the Individual to view/update the information for the Organization?

hi - sure

Create yourself a new Relationship via civicrm/admin/reltype?reset=1

then use that to link the person you want, with their organisation

then you can build a smart group of such people based on their relationship

there isn't a built in 'this is the primary contact for an organisation' in civi

nasact's blog was about the need for such a field

That primary ID you are referring too is the primary contact of a household, not of an organisation.
