Multisite/Multiorg - Domain Access - Organic Groups - Civi ACL - OH my!
June 16, 2014, 01:07:58 pm
Anyone using civi effectively to deliver a multiple organization structure with multiple campaigns and events?

I've worked with Drupal a lot, including multisite installs... but not Civi, domain access, or organic groups and my head is spinning...

I'm trying several different setups to reach site goals, which are:
- to have multiple sites/organizations with shared public user that can view of content per site/group (civi-events mainly)
- have a master site that can bubble up all content from sub-sites (civi-events)
- allow users to register for events regardless of which site/org created them...
- admin level access to specific sites/org content (civi-events)
- admin level access to specific reports for attendees, volunteer hours, ticket revenue, and donations for each event and campaign

Setups:
1) multi-site with shared users and civicrm
2) domain access with shared civicrm
3) organic groups with shared civicrm

Not tied to Civi as it's structure often has me scratching my head, though it seems to deliver on the bulk of the campaign/event requirements.
Open for any suggestions (how-to links very welcome  ;))

Hi Steve - head scratching sounds compulsary.

We have done the aforementioned in some respects ie
- multiple sites wired in to CiviCRM so each is a 'domain' in civi's view and hence provide the base layer of ACL across contacts
- Domain Access
- Organic Groups

On those sites we have not had to work specifically with domain-based Events

Are you also using the civicrm-reference field in drupal so you can perhaps have each Event as a node in drupal - and hence 'bubble' it up through either Domain Access settings or via a sub-OG?

Worth knowing about if you don't already is the work Eileen has done on civicrm entities and Rules - which mean that you can eg have things set up so that
- creation of a civi event results in
- creation of a drupal node that is an OG
- registration for a civi event results in
- contact being added to that event's OG.
