Login to CiviCRM dashboard from WordPress
June 17, 2014, 12:54:29 pm
I'm new to CiviCRM. I've installed it on WordPress and imported about 800 contacts.  I want to allow users to login and see their dashboard.

1. Do I have to create a WordPress user for each contact to allow a CiviCRM contact to login from the front end?
2. How do I link WordPress users to the right profile in CiviCRM? Synchronize users to contacts doesn't work because the contacts are already in CiviCRM.
3. When I create a new WordPress user it creates a CiviCRM contact as an Individual. How can I create the WordPress generated CiviCRM contact as an Organization?

Thanks so much for your help!

Before you go too far with WordPress + Civi, consider switching to Drupal if this is a big/important project. I've found the WP integration to be very buggy so far and missing some features. Without knowing much about Drupal, I think I would have saved time if I'd gone that direction (based on the assumption that it would have taken me less time to learn Drupal than it has taken me to solve problems related to WP).

To answer your questions:

1. Yes, but if you create a Civi profile for a signup form and include the "require WP account creation" option, that part will be handled going forward.

2. You might have to do it by SQL directly. See my response to your other post and the related thread. Alternatively, you could delete all your contacts in Civi (do a bulk permanent delete), use the Add Multiple Users WP plugin to import WP users in bulk, then do the sync.

3. Not sure if it's possible with the sync. Again, you might be able to pull it off using SQL directly if you can't using the Civi bulk options.

Drupal would be far more better compared to wordpress.
