new way of adding a contact to groups in a contacts edit screen sucks

Seems that in 4.4 a change was made in the way that you add a contact to groups while in the contact edit screen.

Before it was a big list that you checked or unchecked a box beside the group to add or remove them from the group.

This has now been changed to a drop down list which makes it much more time consuming to add a contact to multiple groups (having to go back in and scroll through all the groups over and over.)   ???

I am guessing that this change was made in an effort to tidy up this section of the contact edit screens.  However the usability has taken a step backward.

Just my two cents.

Not sure about previous versions, but in the upcoming 4.5 release the list is searchable and the form uses ajax - it definitely does not suck. You can try it for yourself at http://sandbox.drupal.civicrm.org/

I am using 4.4 ( coming from 4.3)

4.3 and previous listed all the groups with checkboxes beside them.  it was really easy to go through and add people to multiple groups. (even though it wasn't necessarily a pretty interface, it was very efficient for users)

Now in 4.4 this has been replaced with a drop down select box... so you have to go into it and scroll through all the groups for every group you want to add the contact to.

I just checked out 4.5.... this is a bit more slick, but still isn't as efficient as the full list with checkboxes...

IMO it's not just the slickness in 4.5, but it also solves the problem that with over several hundred groups the page becomes impractically large. The searchable functionality is also a step up from the checkboxes.

I agree...  It would be nice to have a multi select option as well.

Probably it wouldn't be too hard to change that select to a multi-select.
