New build using existing database
June 20, 2014, 03:56:43 am
Hi

I have an existing civi/drupal build but am unable to upgrade to the latest version due to an issue with my database which I can't find a resolution for. See my post;

http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,32977.msg140519.html#msg140519

So... it seems my only option is to do a new build which throws up an issue in that members of our organisation use the contact ID as their membership number.

Question...can I copy the 'civicrm_contact' table from the existing database in to the new build and then bulk upload the rest of the database around this...? That way they can retain their existing contact ID and membership number?

Please advise if this is possible.

Many thanks
Robbie

Yes, this should be possible, as long as the CiviCRM versions match.

Hi Hershel

thanks for the response...would versions matter if i'm only importing basic fields such as fname, sname, email etc and only from the one table 'civicrm_contact'...I will build relationships through imports?

The only reason for this is that I wish to keep the same Internal Contact ID for each user.

Hi Robbie.

I would definitely use the same version so make sure the civicrm_contact table is precisely the same. After you import that, then you could always upgrade, and that should be easy.
