I would like to hide the "Register now" button from the info page about the event.
I created a new Wordpress page and used the "Add CiviCRM public pages" link to add the event to the page.
I use personalized URL links that I send by email, so the "Register now" link is unnecessary and invites spamming and but I still would like people to be able to see the info page for the event.

Is this at all possible? I'm not afraid to dig into and modify the raw code if needed, but would like to be able to reverse it if needed in the future.

You can use a customized template and remove that link, yes. Or you can use a an "extra" template file and hide it with JS code.
