Where do I put PHP.ini files
May 10, 2008, 12:51:01 pm
I am hosting with www.siteground.com. I am running joomla 1.5.2 and trying to install civiCRM 2. I need to change my max_execution_time to 60 and Im not sure where to put the PHP.ini files. When I try to install civiCRM from the directory I get a blank screen. The default PHP settings for max_execution_time are 30. So I am assuming that thats the issue. Also I have enabled legacy. If anyone could help me I would be very grateful.

Generally, the php.ini file with server default overrides must reside in the folder in which you want the settings to apply. Since that may include several folders, it's easiest to create your override file and then copy it to all folders in your site. See this post for guidance on how to do that:

However, when I last used Siteground (which was admittedly a while ago), they did not allow overrides for memory_limit or max_execution_time. I saw another post somewhere that seemed to indicate that policy may have changed. But you may want to contact Siteground tech support to find out if it's even possible to alter those settings.

you  might want to consider just using .htaccess to do this.
