Preferred Communication Options
May 30, 2007, 02:00:49 pm
Is there anywhere for you to search based on the Preferred Communication options?

For instance, we chose to add an option for "Once a year" (since many of our constituents asked only to get one piece of mail per year) and "No $ solicitation" (because we have constituents that we want to make sure we don't include in our donor appeals).

The fields don't appear anywhere in the advanced search, and I'm having a lot of trouble using the search builder to exclude these folks from lists that I pull.

My preference would be to create a smart group that automatically has these people excluded, but I can't seem to even make that happen in search builder, let alone add other groups to that, since searches always use the OR function with groups.

Thoughts?

Sarah:

Unfortunately search/search builder is not as full featured as yet (seems like its a deep bottomless pit!). Ultimately we do need to allow users to write their own query and hook it into the system.

Your options include:

1. enhance advanced search to include "preferred communication options". This is relatively easy and we can walk you thru it over IRC (and merge your code back into core)

2. help improve search builder to make it more generic and handle a variety of cases more seamlessly

3. Do the query manually and import and create static groups based on contact id. This is a manual error prone process and is least recommended

sorry the choices are not great, but you can help improve things :)
