Contact first_name token only appears sporadically

I have a colleague who, whenever a test email is sent to her, her name doesn't appear where the contact.first_name indicates it should. The token itself doesn't appear either.

There are no other contacts with that same email. The email has other instances at the MySQL level, but hers is the only undeleted one.

Her first name is definitely filled in!

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to start tracking this down?

There's nothing in the civi debug, watchdog, or nginx logs.
