[SOLVED] Auto-renewal option not showing up when entering from backend?
June 26, 2014, 12:01:36 pm
 Hi All,
I saw a thread that talks about manually entering a membership with the auto-renew option.  The thread says that as long as the payment process supports auto-renewal option, and the membership type has the "auto-renewal required" selected, the "Membership renewed automatically" option should show up when one enters the membership manually.

Based on the information, I set up PayPal Standard as the payment processor, and I set up a membership type which requires one to auto-renew their membership.  Afterward, I tested the Online Contribution page and I saw the "auto-renewal" option showing up on the live / test page.  However, when I tried to manually add the same membership type to an user, it doesn't give me the option to auto-renew this user's membership?

The reason I asked is that I am creating a new CiviCRM database (the old one is a mess, so I'm starting out a new one).  I had some members that applied my membership with auto-renewal option.  When I tried to export and import the membership information, it doesn't contain any column that mentions about the auto-renewal, so this is why I'm manually enter those membership information.  Any help is appreciated.

I think you only get the auto-renew option if you set you the membership via submit credit card membership (the  payment processor need the cc info to be able to auto renew)

Thanks Joanne.  I played around a little bit more and was able to transfer those auto-renewal membership over to the new database.  Since I can't submit the credit card information again (otherwise I'll double charge them), I simply add the information directly into the database.  I add the records directly to the "contribution_recur" table and have the membership record reference it.  Thanks!  - Aaron
