Contact Matching and Record Updating
May 11, 2008, 03:33:44 am
I didn't tumble to the "External ID" field when we imported our data.  :( Now I'm trying to add that so I can use the import in CiviMember to import membership dates and such.

80% of my records have a date of birth and a date of baptism. I set contact matching to First, Last, Birth & Baptism(custom date field).  I set the import matching option to "Fill" - import created new records for every row in the csv.  Tried it again set to "Update" - same deal.

Any advice to make this work?

There might be a bug with date matching. Can u reproduce the below error with a small test case on demo and just use first, last & birth as the matching rule.

if so, we'll fix it in a future release

I did in fact reproduce it.  I created three records using only first, last and birth.  I created the attached file and attempted to run an update import to update the external id field on the three records and I ended up with six records - the three original records and three duplicates that also include the external id.

I'll file an issue.
