Hello,

My organisation is based on branches, so members have to be allocated to a branch.

Currently, this is set up in CiviCRM as a group for each branch, all as children of a 'national' group.

Question is, how do I find contacts who haven't been allocated to a branch? All the searches search for group membership, not the opposite..

(I have thought about having a 'branch' custom field, but groups seem to offer many more features - for example, how do you allocate a bunch of contacts to a particular field setting?)

There is a custom search called Include / Exclude Contacts in a Group / Tag (Search > Custom Search to find it.)

If you have (smart) groups for all members and each branch then you can use this search to create a smart group of people who don't belong to any branch.
