Registering Multiple Participants with different roles?
June 30, 2014, 10:39:25 am
I'm in the process of setting up registration for an event for children. We want to be sure to capture the parent/guardian information during registration along with the children they are registering.

Here is my current approach:
The default role for the event is "Attendee" I currently have 2 profiles setup (one for the parent/guardian, the other for the child). I have added an additional event role "Parent/Guardian" that is not counted, and is currently a part of the "parent/guardian" profile.

During registration the parent is the primary registrant. The parent/guardian has to manually select their role. This can be confusing for registrants, and could be overlooked.

Is there any way to change the role automatically for the initial participant? Or can I set the additional participants to different roles by default? Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks!

Since you are using Drupal, have you thought about using webforms for this?

No I have not. That actually looks like it may be a great solution. Thanks for the suggestion!

How well does webform integrate with paid events? I guess that would be my primary concern for future events.

I have the webform setup, but it appears that you have to "pre-define" the contacts that you will register for an event. I'm guessing there is no easy way to let the registrant dynamically select the number...

You can eg create Contact2 as 'a child' and then 'clone contact' via the webform components tab eg 10 times, then use conditional rules so a user can in theory just be shown a 'add more' field, which if ticked would then show Contact3 etc.

Not going to say above is 'easy' but think it can be done without code.

This worked out just right. Conditions work perfectly for my purposes! Thanks again!
