Webform - some beginner questions - fieldsets, event settings
June 30, 2014, 10:12:55 pm
Hi

Im trying  to set up some webforms to enter/update participants for a largish number of historical events.  This is my first outing with webforms so please bear with me.

I have 2 main questions:

1 each event has say 20-40 participants: obviously Id like to clone the contact fields but when I set up the contact details as I want them laid out and then create a fieldset , the layout of the fields changes and I cant seem to change it to the layout I'd like?  If I create the fieldset first, same problem, the webform sets the fields out in a particular way that I cant seem to change.

2 is there any way to make the event select an auto complete?

thanks for any help

Hi Robyn - not clear if you are using the CLone Contact option on the Webform tab (which is how you should do it) or some other way

i think what you need to try, if not already doing so it:

use the Civi tab to load on to webform the fields you want for Contact 1

then in webform 'form components' get your field layout how you want it

then use the 'clone contact' (still on webform 'form components' ) for 'contact1' to fire up your first clone, confirm if layout remains as per Contact 1 (my expectation is that it should) and then repeat ad nauseam

hth

Peter

sort of...

AFAIK you cant clone unless you have a fieldset?

after I set up the fields in "form components" I go to "arrange fields" and get the layout that I want.. once you create a fieldset however, you lose that layout (ie still have the right fields just not laid out as I had set them out)

the contact1 is a fieldset isn't it?

can you try process using the fieldsets you are given? ie test with the minimum for a contact - confirm if it does what you want?

so that isn't a webform screen is it?

perhaps you need to flesh out a bit more

Have you tried what i suggested and confirmed it does what is expected? if so then the problem is perhaps with some other module

are you using Webform Layout module and/or something else.

ah Peter Im sorry Im not explaining this clearly.. I really appreciate you taking the time to look at this:

In answer to your questions:

1 yes a plain ordinary webform screen

2 Yes I did - the issue isnt repeating the fields - its the layout of them; I can customise the layout BUT not if its a fieldset.. something takes over and rearranges the layout

3 Nope - AFAIK just plain ordinary civi webform module

Two attachments:

one the form component screen
the other the "arrange fields" screen

sorry i may be way off line but i don't believe that layout is a standard part of webform module - you sure?

You are using the "arrange fields" module, which is in my opinion more trouble than it's worth. Not only does it not work with fieldsets, it's also incompatible with some web browsers and can't cope with conditional fields either.
I recommend you ditch "arrange fields" and instead give webform layout a try.

ah ha

thank you Colman and Peter,, I really appreciate your help.. since I'm in this deep, Im going to keep going:

so I've

1 deleted "arrange fields"

2 installed webform layout

3 created a new webform....and it almost there.... but for some reason one of the fields (existing contact) is duplicated

attached:

form components screen
webform view

Cloning a layout box really isn't the same thing as cloning the contact's fieldset. I'm afraid that in order for the clone to work properly you need to keep the fieldset that was autogenerated by webform civicrm module, at least until you are done cloning. But IMO keeping it will make your form look nicer also.
