Is there any project mgt function in CiviCRM or extensions?

I am interested but I have not seen any project management features in CiviCRM.  Does anyone know if this is available or going to be a future feature in CiviCRM?

What are other orgs using for their project management?

I need a project mgt CRM that tasks can be assigned for volunteers, staff, and teams so that multiple people can see the progress and casenotes of the on going projects and that we are able to create a history of our work and assignments and have them stored on our system.

There is a commercial product called "Basecamp" that is really good but it is not open source and that is what I am looking for to use something equivalent if possible.

Hi Paco,

Some people do what you're describing - see here: https://civicrm.org/blogs/chrischinchilla/using-civicrm-project-management-and-budgeting

However, this only really makes sense if you've already got another reason to use CiviCRM.  I wouldn't use CiviCRM if your main use case is project management!  There are plenty of open source alternatives to Basecamp available.  My organization uses Redmine, which I like a lot - we tried Open Atrium for a while and didn't think it met our needs, but I hear it's improved a lot.
