Questions about CiviHR?
July 04, 2014, 12:35:33 am
I looked at the CiviHR demo and it looks like it is a CIVICRM.

http://civihr.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/dashboard?

I am confused why you are saying it is a separate load from CiviCRM when in the instructions it says that CiviCRM is a prerequisite.  Is anyone using this extension and finding it useful for managing volunteers?

I am also running CiviCRM on Joomla and everyone seems to be a Drupal user here.

Let me know how you like it.

As this is a sidetrack from my original post I have split it off.

However, I didn't split it correctly so the rest of this topic can be found at http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,33429

For those organisations that are already running CiviCRM and are thinking of adding the CiviHR extensions, the recommendation is that you do not mix CRM contacts and HR contacts in the same database. This is because the sort of flexible permissions necessary to keep HR data secure, while at the same time keeping CRM data more widely accessible, are not yet available in CiviCRM.

However, as the CiviHR extensions cannot run in isolation of CiviCRM, in order to follow this recommendation, you will thus need to create a new, separate instance of CiviCRM and then add the CiviHR extensions to it. Consequently, you will end up with one instance of CiviCRM containing your CRM contacts, and another instance of CiviCRM (plus the CiviHR extensions) containing your HR contacts. Any contacts that are relevant to both CRM and HR will need to be duplicated.

Once more flexible permissions have been developed, it is hoped that CRM and HR contacts could be kept safely in the same database. However, I do not yet know a timeframe for this work.

As for CMS compatibility, CiviHR is initially being developed with only Drupal compatibility in mind, but the changes necessary to make it compatible with Joomla and/or WordPress should be relatively small. We are hoping that some other members of the community will be willing to pick up this work.
