This follows on from http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,33428.  I split another topic incorrectly.

I am not saying it is a separate load from CiviCRM.

I am saying you need one instance of CiviCRM to run CiviHR  and a second instance of CiviCRM to use with CiviEvent, CiviContribute, CiviCase etc.

That is why there is a demo site just for CiviHR  http://civihr.demo.civicrm.org/  .

Have you logged into the CiviHR demo site and looked at what it offers?

Ok I see what you mean so there will be two instances of Civi, one Being plain CiviCRM and one of CiviHR.

I have looked at demo, but do these two instances share the shame database or do you have to re-input data?

For instance, if a contributor wants to be a volunteer, then you would have two different sources of the same contact and that could be counter-productive and confusing.

If would be better to have every one in the same instance of CiviCRM.  I also want to have volunteers do case management and other functions such as working on project tasks and it looks like CiviHR only focuses on the hiring process from start to finish and nothing after when the employee is selected to work.  I maybe wrong but that is the impression the demo gave me is that is it for HR activity only.

Thanks for clarifying my questions.

Another potential problem issue would be with two instances in Joomla would be the Joomla 2 CiviCRM User Sync plugin that syches users registered with Joomla  to CiviCRM.  I have reason to believe that this may cause a dupe problem if you have two instances.

I maybe wrong, but this seems possible to me and I will also have to create separate access right to CiviHR in the access rights panel in Joomla which can be very tricky since you only want to give the minimum privileges to the user using that function and nothing more.

Please let me know if you have experienced this or is two instances a fact of life using CiviCRM if you want all these capabilities and functions?

This discussion is way out of my league now, so I will leave it up to someone else to answer.
