Creating bank deposit listings through civicrm
July 07, 2014, 07:13:44 am
I don't know what happens in rest of the world, but in Australia when you deposit cheques in a bank you need to include a bank deposit listing.  Typically this would consist of :
  • Cheque drawer
  • Bank code (to identify the bank and branch where the account is held)
  • Cheque number
  • amount

for each cheque and a total amount for the deposit.

Creating this manually can be tedious so I am wanting to create them through CiviCRM.

I have created two contribution custom fields for Cheque drawer (as has been noted before in the forum this is not always the same as the name of the contact) and Bank Code.

Getting the information out is not a problem; I can get the listing I need through the extended line-item report.

However getting the information in is a bit of a pain as most of our cheques are payments for membership renewals and the contribution custom fields do not appear when you are recording off-line payments for memberships.  This means that the person processing the payment has to save the membership payment then edit the contribution to add the bank code and the cheque drawer.

Do other countries also need bank deposit listings?

There is already an extra field for cheque number that appears when the payment instrument is cheque.  Would there be any support for adding another two fields that only appear when the payment instrument is cheque to hold the bank code and the cheque drawer?

Thanks for that info Erik.

It prompted me to investigate cheques a bit more and it seems that many European countries have basically done away with them.  It seems to be USA, UK, AUS that cling to them.
