Address labels?
July 07, 2014, 08:59:37 am
I'm generating (print) thank you letters. At the moment, I select the individuals that received the letter, and run a CSV export, which I then use to do a mail merge in Word, so I can print labels for the envelopes. Somewhat cumbersome with only a handful of donations. Will be really time consuming and complex to explain to volunteers (such as the President of our board who's voiced an interest in doing this task).

Is there a simple way to generate address labels?

I've been thinking about creating a custom "thank you letter", which would in fact use our envelope sizes, so we'd run the letter once, then the envelope as a second run. Bit clumsy though. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks

Nic

We use envelopes with an address window and format the pdf so that the address information is displayed in the window on the envelope.  Then there is no chance of the envelope for Johan Smythe containing the letter for Margaret Simmons.

If you can't use window faced envelopes for some reason then you can create mailing labels directly through CiviCRM.  It is one of the options in the action list available for all search results.  You format the label at Administer > Localizations > address settings

Thank you Joanne,

Unfortunately, window envelopes cause a complete paper jam when trying to print the logo & return address, and we don't run enough letters to be worth doing a print job to get the envelopes done at a printer.

Thank you for pointing out the Mailing Labels option in the search results. It hadn't occured to me to go that way. I was looking at the options from the Find Contribution search, rather than go Search > Advanced search. Glad the option is there. Perhaps this points to a need to improve UI a bit.

Thanks again Joanne :)
