Getting error on Date and State / Province fields during contacts import
July 08, 2014, 04:57:30 am
Hi,

I am trying to import contacts in to CiviCRM (4.3) + Drupal (7), it however throws error saying "Invalid value for field(s) : Date of  activation / deactivation; State / Province; Birth-Date".

In the CSV file I have given date in dd/mm/yy format , for example 5/10/95, Civi supports this date format as can be seen on the first step of contact importer.

In the State / Province field, I tried using the State name (e.g. Delhi), but it did not work. So I changed state to its numerical equivalent i.e. 1231 but, it still throws the error. I cant see where could the issue be.

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks,
Ashok Negi

For State/Province I think you need to use the recognised state abbreviations ie DL for Delhi.

For dates, I don't know, but if I am getting import errors like yours I usually do a small export of the fields I want to import and open the file in a text editor rather than Excel to check on formats.

Also, your profile says you are running 4.3.3.  If that is correct then you should upgrade to the last version in the 4.3 series but preferably the latest 4.4.6. Your date problem could be a bug that has been fixed since 4.3.3 and I am sure there will have been some security upgrades since then.

I'm getting the error on invalid date format when importing.

This is likely to be a bug in that particular date format (even in 4.4.6).  Last time I used import I set the input date format to 10-Oct-95. Fortunately Excel is good at converting from dd/mm/yy to that format, so this is a quick bypass of that problem.

CiviCRM 4.1.5

We run several instances, development, staging and production. All are running the same version of CiviCRM

The dates are formatted like: December 1, 2012

Imports are successful in development and staging but all the dates are rejected in production.

Is there a configuration setting somewhere that controls date formats?
