Unable to Correct Name Capitalizations in User Interface
July 14, 2014, 12:27:09 pm
Using CiviCRM version 4.4.5 and Wordpress 3.9.1. This has been an ongoing, albeit minor, issue. When trying to correct names such as Mcbride to McBride and Macintosh to MacIntosh, the user interface does not let us do so.  Also weird capitalizations (Company Name, InC., email@businessname.Com) aren't able to be corrected through the user interface.

My process after logging into Wordpress/CiviCRM.
- I search for the name I need to correct (Mcbride)
- Once I get to the individual contact's profile page, I click on "Edit Name" (or just click on name) and get the edit area for the name.
- I make the correction to McBride, click into another field (just so I am in another field and not the one I just corrected) and then click Save.
- Does not Save the change.
- Bang head on table...

I have been going into phpMyAdmin/database/table: civicrm_contact and correcting there, although I really shouldn't be mucking about there! ;D

When I make corrections in the user interface to email addresses, business names or other fields regarding incorrect capitalization, corrections do not "stick" after saving, but revert back to being incorrect.

Is this a bug? Or is there some sort of work-around other than going into the actual database table?

Thank you. We at Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education are really loving CiviCRM overall!

Peace,
Sandra

Sandra - I'm not able to recreate this on our 4.4.7 WordPress demo.
http://wordpress.demo.civicrm.org/wp-admin/admin.php?page=CiviCRM&q=civicrm/contact/view&reset=1&cid=604

I entered the last name as Mcbride and then changed it from the name editing block.

Might you have some WP plugin installed that tries to be helpful about capitalization or ??? Can you see if you an recreate on the public demo: http://wordpress.demo.civicrm.org/wp-login.php

Hi, Dave.

Thanks for quick response. I did test out in the 4.4.7 Wordpress demo and was not able to recreate the issue. (The corrections did "stick").

I then went to our own dev version  (sandbox), deactivated all the plug-ins except CiviCRM and was able to recreate the issue.  I then changed from Genesis theme to basic Twenty Thirteen theme, keeping plugins deactivated, and was able to recreate the issue. Would indicate that plug-ins and Genesis not the cause?

Since this has been happening for several versions of CiviCRM and Wordpress, not sure an upgrade to 4.4.7 would fix this. Will just continue to muck about in the database to correct until 4.5.- comes out and has been fully tested to see if still an issue.

Thanks again for looking into this so quickly...

Also just tested adding a new individual, and editing name after. Still having issue.

Additionally, when inputting a company name that used Inc. it always changes to InC. even though I did not capitalize the c.
