Defaulting a new member to a security role
July 16, 2014, 01:13:17 pm
I've set up a contribution form for new members in WP. I was wondering how to set up security for the new member without having to assign it manually every time. Is there a way to default a new member to an ACL? I am using a profile screen to collect some member information.

I think you will need to clarify what you mean by 'security'.

What information are you wanting
 visible/hidden to them versus
visible/hidden to others with same level of access versus
visible/hiddent to those with lower access versus
visible/hiddent to those with higher access

When someone joins, I want them to be able to register for events. If they are not a member, I only want them to view the events. So, when the membership form is completed, I *think* I need to map it to an ACL or a WP security role, but I'm not sure how to do that.

Neither do I. The Drupal approach that would get closest I think

Use Member Synch module to give members a specific Drupal Role

use that role to give permissions to 'register'

give lesser roles permission to see 'event info'

haven't verified that is absolutely do-able - just from memory - but like i say, no idea on WP side of things. sorry

I was able to figure this out - the Contribution form is based on a Profile. There are Advanced options on the Settings for the Profiles. There, you can configure it to automatically add new users to a Group. I have 2 sets of groups - one for Access Control and one for Club Chapters. I automatically add new users to the security role Group. The Chapters are selected by the user when they register.
