install fails
July 16, 2014, 02:22:26 pm
I downloaded the civicrm 4.4.6 drupal file and tried to install it using the Install Modules page on my drupal site. It fails quietly, no errors no nothing, the page refreshes and that's it. I did follow the install guide. and tried to use the download ulr, but it fails to fetch the file. Any ideas?

By the Way I tried the same thing on my WordPress site, using the WP file, and it too fails quietly.

Thanks for any help.

You don't install CiviCRM via the modules page on your drupal site. You need to follow these directions:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC44/Drupal+Installation+Guide+for+CiviCRM+4.4+-+Drupal+7
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.

Thank you for your reply,
I did read and follow those instructions:
>> Step 2 "As administrator in Drupal, go to Modules, click on Install New Module, and it will ask you to fill in the URL of the module. It will then fetch it and install it for you. You will need to enable the Update Manager module in the drupal modules page to see the Install New Module link."

So I'm a bit confused, apparently I need to uncompress the gzip file into the modules folder then point my browser at the cicvicrm folder and go from there...

Yes, the "automatic download" method does not work on all servers and you must use the manual method, as you wrote.
