maintenance for views-integration
July 21, 2014, 05:35:14 am
Hi,

my colleague from SYSTOPIA read in this post http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,30126.msg129407.html#msg129407 that the views-integration-code is looking for a maintainer.
Some of our clients are using the views-integration and we've already done some coding in this respect. So my colleague asked me to figure out if it would make sense to take on the views-integration-maintenance by myself.

I am really not sure if I am the right person for this task. But before skipping it all I would like to learn more about the tasks of a maintainer.
There are a few questions I have, but I am thankfull for any information someone could give me:

  • What excactly is the code that should be maintained.
  • What are the common tasks and strategies of a maintainer?
  • What is the average workload  for maintaining the views-integration-code?
  • What time will it probably take to become acquainted with maintaining the views-integration-code?

Thanks a lot,
thomas

That's awesome - I hope it does.

Fixing the bugs that come in and ensuring that the module remains compatible with newer versions of CiviCRM as they are released.
https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM/component/10320/?selectedTab=com.atlassian.jira.jira-projects-plugin:component-summary-panel shows some of the current open views issues - you could always also search for views on jira.

You might want to contact the previous maintainer (Jalama / Jim Taylor jim AT rootyhollow dot com though I don't think he is involved with CivICRM much anymore.

If you have already done some coding - hopefully not long.  You can always start and see how it goes.  I know that Chris Chincilla was thinking about getting involved but am not sure how far that has gone.

I thought Chris Ward had put his hand up for this but given he is now travelling (?) in europe I am not sure how much he has given it. We continue to have a strong interest in this and have contributed many fixes/improvements to it and will continue to do so which hopefully helps the efforts

Hey all… I have been handling this but have been busy with work and moving the past few months. I was actually going to put some time into this today though. However, would always welcome a hand!

PM me and we'll talk some more about sharing tasks etc…
