How to delete e-mail/phone through a Profile

Hello there.

We use Profiles in a custom frontend to allow teachers to view and edit information on their students and alumni, but this also occurs through the regular Civi interface.

When editing a contact through a Profile, I can change some fields, such as the name and DOB, and I can blank the box, and the changes are saved. I can change e-mail addresses and phone numbers to a different value. However, if I blank the e-mail address or phone number, it proceeds to the "Thank you. Your information has been saved." page but keeps the old e-mail address or phone number without giving an error.

Is there a way of deleting/blanking e-mail addresses and phone numbers through Profiles?

I would call that a bug. You might want to fix locally and submit the improvement to core.
