Can I extract data to report on revisions to a relationship?
July 26, 2014, 04:21:27 am
I want to place some custom data items on a relationship to report on through views - all this works nicely, but the users may want to track changes in those data over time.

It is not possible to place a repeating group into a relationship as it is on a contact record - so I can't have them create a new record every time they want to change the figures (and besides it is a real nightmare to limit the dataset to the last updated record in views).

Is looking at revision history an alternative means to presenting them with a history of changes to that relationship's data? Can I get to it?

I could also use cron to periodically export the data from the drupal view and then collate those into one file, but that seems a really messy way of doing it.

The report could be through views or otherwise

Looking at the log file it seems to record that something has been done by someone to something, but not the detail of what that something is - so in this case I would be able to say 'Sally changed the relationship' , but I wouldn't now what it was before or after...

If anyone can tell me otherwise please do :-)

Have you looked into detailed logging? Turning it on will enable you to collect the info you want (and a lot lot more)

myles - would be interesting to hear your 'use case' in case there are others who would learn something, or alternatives others might suggest
