Petition issues - please help?
July 26, 2014, 06:48:40 am
Hi, I have 3 issues with a petition that are stopping my progress. I'd be really grateful if somebody could tell me what I'm doing wrong or where I need to go next.

I'm using CiviCRM with Wordpress, and using the Motif theme.

1) Most critical issue:  I have attempted to sign the petition 7 times as a test. At the time I have been logged in to the site and the petition page has switched between publicly published and private. If I look at petition signatures I have 1 signature action showing. If I look at my email inbox I have 7 mails.

2) All petition emails that I receive go to the correct mail address, but the name on the mail shows as 'test test', which was the name given to the first test account used. Different mail addresses under the same domain were used for each of these. Forgive my ignorance - this might be my mail client?

3) When I get to the thank you page for the petition it looks like this:

Any help really very much appreciated - I'm running a small voluntary campaign and don't have a huge amount of background in web admin.

I do not know a lot about the Petitions functionality, but, assuming you are replying to the 'verify email address' email you should be receiving, it sounds like every time you sign the petition you are logged in under the admin account.

I think this would explain all three issues as follows:

1) Only one signature allowed for any given contact - duplicates on petitions shouldn't be allowed.

2) The contact record is updating each time with the new email address, but the contact name stays the same. (Are you just asking for email address in your contact info profile?)

3)This fits with 1) only one signature allowed for any given contact -There must be an auto-response set up for duplicate signatures form the same contact. ( I suspect you didn't get this the first time you signed the petition).

You will need to make logged out from the admin account to test the petition properly.

yes, that makes perfect sense, thank you very much. When logged out I get to the confirmation screen & receive a confirmation email, but - new error - when following the link on the confirmation I have a page not found error.

The problem with the confirmation screens in general - as per the screenshot - is that the text floats at the top of the page rather than appearing within the 'normal' space for text below. Is this something I could fix with the right html in the thank-you page set up?

I don't know much about wordpress  but it seems that text in the wrong place on a wordpress site usually indicates a  problem with your theme.  See http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,32793.msg139779.html#msg139779 .
