Populating 'Source of Contact Data' field to track engagement data
July 28, 2014, 12:26:28 pm
I find it hard to believe that no one has address this, but I cannot seem to find any threads with solutions.

I'd like to have my public contact profiles (used to collect contact information along with some custom fields as a means to sign people up for our lists),  to auto populate the 'Source of Contact Data.' Name of the profile would be fine or some other data that would help us track how the contact became engaged with us.

Has anyone found a way to do this? I suppose I could use the HTML Form Snippet and edit the form code to make 'Source of Contact Data' populated and hidden, but that seems like quite a work around for what should be a simple piece of data collection.

Or you could just add the field to the form, give it a default value, make it read-only, and hide it with css. (note this option is better than what you suggested because it will not overwrite the field for existing contacts).

I don't know why it's not easier in profiles. But if you're using a Drupal CiviCRM-Webform, it happens automatically (and is configurable).
