How to deal with contact updating their details via registration ?
May 14, 2008, 08:36:49 am
Hi,

I'm using event registration with a profile.

If I understood properly, if I register with an existing email already in the database, it will update the details of that contact instead of updating it (not sure 100% about the criterias, but I for sure had "sdfsdf" type of address on my main contact after having registered to an event and random filling.

The problem I face is that I risk ending up with garbage details replacing the real good one. Is there a way to avoid it ?

to rollback a contact to a previous version of the details ?

to get a notification of the updates (contact self-update warning ?)

In profile settings, in Advanced, you can "Notify when profile form is submitted?" ie If you want member(s) of your organisation to receive a notification email whenever this Profile form is used to enter or update contact information, enter one or more email addresses here. Multiple email addresses should be separated by a comma (e.g. jane@example.org, paula@example.org). The first email address listed will be used as the FROM address in the notifications.

Is that what you need?

The address / email info that is entered during event registration should be stored as the "Billing" location info. In general, this means it will be an additional set of data for the contact.

@ peterd

Magic! I'll try that way.

@dave,

I will do proper testings, but I'm pretty sure it has changed the "main" details (might be mixing two issues)

However, at a conceptual level, I don't understand: if I put in my profile the work address or email, that this address/email that I expect to be modified, not the billing one ? Confused...

Sorry for the confusion - I was referring to the block of Billing Address info that is automatically added to an Event Registration form if you use PayPal Pro or one of the other processors where that info is collected in the CiviCRM side.
